ELIZABETH J. CARROLL, PH.D
Educational Background and Training
Dr. Carroll is a licensed clinical psychologist who earned her Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology, English, and Theater Studies at the University of Connecticut. She has extensive experience working with college students having worked for a decade supporting students at college counseling centers (Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Ramapo College of New Jersey). Additionally, Dr. Carroll has trained in a variety of settings including hospital inpatient, residential treatment centers, and community mental health clinics throughout New York and New Jersey. Past training sites include New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell, The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and completion of an accredited internship at SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
Areas of Specialization
Dr. Carroll specializes in working with emerging adults, anxiety and depression, a history of sexual abuse or sexual trauma, members of the LGBT+ community, current or historical family conflict, and relationship exploration.
Modalities
Dr. Carroll practices as an integrative therapist, drawing on her training in the use of psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques. She has additional specialized training in trauma-focused therapy and affirmative care for the LGBT+ community.
